The early years
For the first eight years of her life, Angelika von Stocki grew up in the small village of Streichmühle near Flensburg as the youngest of four children in the family. Her mother worked as a dentist med. and her father was a businessman.
In the beginning, Angelika von Stocki used to play in meadows, fields and on the beaches of the Baltic Sea. Once the family had moved to the large city of what was then West Berlin, her playground became the ruins of that town.
Right from the start, her parents were against the National-Socialist government. For political reasons, her mother was refused approbation by the Nazi government after she had successfully completed her dentistry med. studies. When the Federal Republic of Germany was founded, her mother obtained her approbation as dentist med. from the University of Kiel.
In this spirit, the parental home of Stocki was decisive in laying the foundations for her later interest in, among others, dealing with political topics in her photography.

Stocki already undertook her first photographic experiments at the age of ten when, at her own request, she was given a “Box” for Christmas.

Education
Following her High-School-Graduation in 1964 Stocki went on to university to study mathematics, physics and law at what was then West Berlin and at Kiel. From that time, there are several photographic works that resulted during music-ethnological research stays in Turkey, lasting several months, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Kurt Reinhard.

From 1969 to 1973 Stocki studied art-pedagogics and mathematics under Prof. Wolfgang Kunde and
Prof. Dr. Herbert Meschkowski in former West Berlin. During that time, several other photographic works resulted, e.g. during stays in Africa and South America.

From 1973 to 2009 Stocki taught mathematics and visual arts at a High School in Berlin.

From 1988 onward, Stocki had increasingly been working with photographic art on recurring themes.

After the political changes of 1989 the city of Berlin became a subject focus for the works of Angelika von Stocki. It is her most significant activity location for her photographic art and keeps inspiring her to ever more image sequences. Angelika von Stocki still resides in Berlin.
Angelika von Stocki is the mother of two adult children, her daughter Natalie and her son Konstantin.
